In ancient cultures all over the world, there is a shared recognition that everything that exists is composed of a few essential elements. These elements embody key qualities—the balance of which results in harmony within ourselves and in the world.
Earth is the embodiment of the quality of solidity, perceptible through all five of our senses. When this element is balanced, we are centered and grounded. When we are rooted firmly in the element of earth, we have the safety, security and stability we need to blossom out into the world.
Air is the embodiment of the quality of movement, perceptible through just two of our senses (it cannot be smelled, tasted or seen). When this element is balanced, we are light and expansive. When we are able to go where the element of wind blows, we have the gratitude, openness and receptivity we need to embrace the inevitable ups-and-downs of life.
Water is the embodiment of the quality of fluidity, perceptible through four of our senses (it cannot be smelled). When this element is balanced, we are accommodating and adaptable. When we are able to ride the waves of the element of water, we have the flexibility, spontaneity and trust we need to flow with the changing currents of life.
Space is the embodiment of the quality of ineffability, perceptible through sound alone. When this element is balanced, we are in touch with our own qualities of infinitude and transcendence. When we are able to connect with the unimaginable vastness of the element of space, we can reclaim the divinity, perfection and wholeness that are the marks of who we truly are.
Fire is the embodiment of the quality of transformation, perceptible through three of our senses (it cannot be tasted or touched). When this element is balanced, we are courageous and driven. When we are able to fan the flames of the element of fire, we have the passion, power and purpose we need to blaze our own trail in the world.
In our retreat in Awakening Self-Love: Reconnecting with the Elements, we will engage in various practices designed to bring us home to ourselves is profoundly healing and transformative ways. We will participate with Mother earth, Water and Fire ceremonies; perform yogic exercises in asana, pranayama and dhyana; dance, chant and sing; and most importantly, rest, relax and reflect.

Sequoia has been teaching for over a decade and has studied yoga and other spiritual practices for over twenty years. She embodies her yoga teachings; this shines through in how she teaches. Her passions include the philosophies and practices of mantra, meditation, nada yoga, pranayama and yoga nidra.

Jero comes from a family of holy priests and oversees the sacred garden temple of Beji where he presents prayers and offerings to the spirits and conducts ceremonies on specific days. Jero’s life is devoted to Spirit and he uses his connection with unseen energies to share the universe’s wisdom with all.
Eileen is a yoga teacher trainer, yoga and meditation teacher, retreat facilitator and Reiki practitioner. An educator by heart, Eileen is passionate about learning and sharing practices that can transform people’s lives and their experience of life. When she’s not reading up on the world’s religions, Eileen spends her free time listening to neuroscience lectures and dharma talks.
The retreat begins on March 17 at 4:00 pm for the opening ceremony.
The retreat officially ends after the morning program on March 23, 2019.

The above schedule is simply a guide and may change depending on what the retreat participants need on a given day. There will also be an evening with a program, as well as an afternoon devoted to a trip to Ubud for sightseeing or shopping.

The retreat will be held at the Bhanuswari Resort, a sanctuary nestled in the southern foothills of the Indonesian island of Bali, just 15 minutes away from the town of Ubud. Bali is located off the Eastern tip of Java and is home to a Hindu minority famous for its kindness and hospitality. Foreigners refer to Bali as the “Paradise Island” because of its breath-taking beauty while locals refer to it as the “Island of the Gods” because of its palpable and pervasive sense of spirituality.
Bhanuswari Resort is surrounded by terraced rice fields, towering coconut trees, natural spring-fed streams and vibrant tropical gardens, creating a serene and secluded setting ideal for retreats. Bali is just one of the many small islands of Indonesia, but without a doubt, it is one of the most famous. Frequently referred to as “The Paradise Island”, Bali’s reputation in the world is as a tropical paradise of untold beauties of nature, hosting a peaceful feeling and never-ending beauty. The island is also known as the island of the “Gods” because worship colors every facet of life among the Hindu Balinese in their daily activities. The whole of Indonesia is Muslim; Bali is its only Hindu island.
The local people are soft in nature, happy to help and very kind. From my personal experience, I feel it’s a safe country and very spiritual, which of course supports the practice of Yoga. Even though I say it’s safe, theft can occur and we recommend being mindful with your belongings in the bigger centres like Ubud and Denpasar, the capital you will be flying into.
Bali occupies an area of only 6,000 square kilometers. The longest distance is about 140 kilometers coast-to-coast. Bali is located just off the eastern tip of Java, separated by the narrow Bali straights. The island lies eight degrees south of the equator. So, expect some humidity. Our venue, Bhanuswari, is located about one hour north of the airport, which is 20 minutes from Ubud, seen in purple on the map. Ubud has a bit of everything from great healers, shops and delicious vegetarian restaurants.

Do I need travel insurance?
We highly recommend having it just in case but it is not mandatory.
What do I need to know about my updated Passport
Your passport must be valid for a period of 60 days beyond the length of the visa/entry stamp you’re requesting upon entry to Bali.
Do I need a Visa?
You can receive a visa on arrival which is good for one month unless you pay in the airport for 2 months, but it cannot be renewed while in the country. Check with your local Indonesian embassy for specifics for your country of residence/origin.
Do I need to get any Vaccinations?
This is a personal choice, as there are sometimes outbreaks of dengue fever, which you cannot get a vaccine for.
What is the Weather like in April?
The weather in Bali is hot and humid, with occasional rain showers.
